What the production team needed to control

01

Prevent nonconforming labels from reaching customers and creating compensation or recall risk.

02

Inspect and segregate defects online for labels approximately 20 mm high.

03

Exchange inspection results and printer status with the production PLC.

04

Fit the inspection system into the existing printer footprint and support rapid label changeover.

Implemented solution

BLC B-ZT6166 with Zebra ZT610

Bosch selected the integrated BLC B-ZT6166 configuration for Zebra ZT610. The exit-mounted camera inspects the first label, supports barcode and text rules, and uses configurable I/O for PLC communication.

Seamless printer integration

BLC follows the Zebra ZT610 label path while retaining the applicable defect-segregation workflow.

Barcode and text inspection

Inspection modules can be selected rapidly for the current label and production job.

Production interfaces

Configurable I/O exchanges inspection decisions and printer status with the PLC.

Reported outcome

What changed after implementation

  • Inline inspection was incorporated without a separate downstream inspection footprint.
  • The production team gained an automated check before labels moved to downstream operations.
  • The supplied case study reports continued operation without increasing existing manpower.
Inspection at the printer exit helped reduce nonconforming-label risk while preserving the production footprint.
